Old Faithful: A Childhood Dream Fulfilled
Visiting Old Faithful was a dream come true for Hannah, who had always wanted to witness the iconic geyser in action since she was a child. Known for its predictable eruptions, Old Faithful has been drawing visitors for over a century. The geyser was named during the Washburn-Langford-Doane Expedition in 1870, and its eruptions have remained remarkably consistent ever since. It erupts approximately every 90 minutes, shooting boiling water up to 180 feet in the air, a spectacle of geothermal power and precision.
As we arrived at Old Faithful, we were excited to find that the visitor center provides up-to-date information on when the next eruption is expected. This allowed us to plan our visit perfectly. While waiting, we took the opportunity to explore the boardwalk trails that wind around the Upper Geyser Basin. This area is home to a variety of smaller geysers and thermal pools, each with its own unique charm and personality.
Witnessing Old Faithful erupt was an unforgettable experience. The anticipation built as the crowd gathered, and the excitement was palpable when the geyser finally sprang to life. Watching the water surge skyward was awe-inspiring, and the experience was everything Hannah had dreamed of and more. For those visiting Yellowstone, timing your visit to see Old Faithful in action is a must, and exploring the surrounding area only adds to the adventure.
